A disturbing new development of politically motivated violence and hyper-partisanship has replaced -or at least spawned from – cancel culture. In response to the Department of Government Efficiency’s austerity measures headed by Elon Musk, the “Tesla Takedown” movement is urging protesters to sell their Tesla vehicles, dump their stock holdings, and join the picket lines. The protest movement, which has been designated a domestic terrorist organization by the US’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is hoping to host its largest demonstration on 29 March, a Global Day of Action. The demonstrations are international, with protests planned across the United States (US), the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Most of the demonstrations will take place in the US, with demonstrations planned in more than 30 states across the country.
Prior to the day of action, asymmetrical and guerilla warfare tactics have been employed at Tesla dealerships across the country. Dealerships have been vandalized. Molotov cocktails, bullets, and swastikas have been used to destroy vehicles, and dealerships have been targeted with suspicious incendiary devices. The Austin Police Department, the Austin Fire Department, and the federal government are investigating the incident. But dealerships aren’t the only entities being targeted, individuals driving privately owned vehicles are being pulled over and accosted by associates of the Tesla Takedown movement. At least one Tesla owner was cut off and harassed for driving their privately owned vehicle.

If the threat persists, immediately call 911 and seek emergency assistance. Individuals fearing for their safety should not stop or get out of the vehicle, but should cautiously keep moving until a safe distance is reached and coordination with law enforcement is possible.
